On 11th August 2025, it will be two years since the DPDPA 2023 was gazetted with the proviso that different provisions of the Act would come into effect on different dates to be notified.\u00a0 In January 2025,Government released a set of “Draft Rules” for public comments which reportedly received 6915 feedbacks.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 industry is raising one objection after another trying to postpone the notification of the Act.<\/p>\n
The Privacy Activists had their objection to the proposed amendment to RTI Act which the Government has now safely deposited with a request for opinion from the Attorney General for retrieval at its discretion.<\/p>\n
In the meantime the Digital Payment Companies such as\u00a0 NPCI\u00a0<\/a> have sought exemption from the “Consent” provision for repeat transactions. This is a critical aspect of consent in financial transactions and prone to misuse. DPDPA requires one consent for one purpose even if multiple payments are required. It can therefore be applied for repeated consents for the same purpose.
