Scott Styris Displaces Dwyane Smith as the Top Player of the World Cup on Day 4

Gibbs scores a world record but falls short in NCR rating

After the thrill of a tied match on day 3, a world record breaking six sixes in six balls by Herschell Gibbs against Van Bunge, the Netherland's bowler brought the crowds to their feet. Result wise, New Zealand overcame England while South Africa trounced Netherlands.

From the NCR (Naavi Cricket Rating), viewpoint, the day marked the displacement of Dwyane Smith fromt he top of the table by the alround brilliance of Scott Styris. Sturis playing for New Zealand, took two wickets for 25 runs in seven overs conceding 3.6 runs per over as against the overall team conceding 4.1 per over. He also scored 87 in 113 balls at a rage of 0.8 runs per ball when the asking rate was 0.7 runs per ball. Additionally, he also took a catch. With this alround performance he gained 142 NCR points sufficient to go past Dwyane Smith to occupy the top slot for the time being.

Though Herschell Gibbs got the ICC Player of the Match award for his innings against Netherlands, it was Smith with his alround performance who became the NCR Hero for the match.

These subtle differences are what makes NCR rating different from other ratings.

Tomorrow will be a big day for India who will play their first match. Besides, Pakistan will play their second match of the tournament and hence the NCR table will get mixed up with players who have played different number of matches.
