Heros and Villains..2
Day 2: Australia Vs Scotland and Kenya Vs Canada
Tikolo steals the show on Day 2
Day 2 of the Cricket World Cup 2007 had two matches and 44 players on display. Both matches however involved the minnows of the game. While Australia took on Scotland in the first match and trounced them by 203 runs, Kenya defeated Canada by an impressive 7 wickets in the other match. While Ponting scored a century and stole the man of the match award in one match Tikolo got the man of the match award in the other match. Tikolo with 72 runs and two wickets got the man of the match award.
We shall now look at how the Naavi Credit Rating (NCR) system evaluated the 44 players.
One of the characteristics of NCR is that opposition strength is taken into consideration while assessing the performance of the players. Accordingly, a Century against Australia cannot be equated with a Century against Kenya, Scotland or Canada. The weightages accorded to the minnows in this tournaments are as follows.

0.5 0.5 3 Kenya

0.4 0.4 5 Netherlands
0.4 0.4 6 Canada 0.4 0.4 7 Ireland 0.4 0.4 8 Bermuda 0.4 0.4 On the other hand the eight teams which are expected to move into the super eight (barring unforeseen developments) carry the weightages as follows.

1.0 1.0 6 West Indies
0.9 1.0 7 England
0.9 0.9 8 Pakistan
0.9 0.9 These weightages did work in reducing the NCR scores of Ponting and McGrath while it amplified the earnings of Scotland. Tikolo also got his earnings discounted since the opposition was Canada. The net impact of these weightages was that in the Australia-Scotland match, Haq emerged as the NCR hero of the match ahead of Ponting.
In the Kenya-Canada match Tikolo held too much steam and became the NCR. hero of the match. With an earning of 74 NCR points, Tikolo raised to the 4th rank amongst the 66 players who so far had an opportunity to display thier talents. The first three positions remained with Smith and Bravo of West Indies and Rao Iftikhar of Pakistan based on their performance in the first match.
Taking both the matches together, Tikolo emerged as the NCR hero of day 2. A better analysis can be done when all teams have at least one outing against the minnows and another against top eight team.
