Heros and Villains...
Hayden Maintains Lead against Graem Smith..
As expected, Graem Smith gave a chase to Mathew Hayden in the NCR race for the top slot. However, in the end, Smith was still well short of Hayden at 275 points as against 344 of Hayden.
In the top 10 at this stage, there were as many as 5 Australians reflecting the dominance they have displayed in the tournament so far. There were also 2 Aouth Africans and one New Zealander. Of course, New Zwealand is yet to play their first Super Eight match and Scot Styris is still in contention for perhaps the second or third spot by tomorrow end.
West Indies will have another match tomorrow and perhaps some body from their team may find a place temporarily in th top five.
The top 10 in the table at this interim stage would be are as follows:
Rank Points Name Country 1 344 Mathew Hayden Australia 2 275 Graem Smith South Africa 3 269 Brad Hogg Australia 4 238 Dwayne Bravo West Indies 5 225 Jacques Kallis South Africa 6 197 Scott Styris New Zealand 197 Geln McGrath Australia 7 188 Michel Clarke Australia 8 187 Ricky Ponting Australia 9 186 Steve Tikolo Kenya 10 185 JM Davison Canada Chris Gayle who was one of the pre tournament favourites for the NCR man of the tournament, is yet to find his feet in th tournament and is way behind his team mates Dwyane Smith and Bravo . He needs a Hayden like innings to break into the top and stake a claim to the top slot. Since he also bowl regularly he will have more opportunities than Hayden to gain NCR points.
