Cyber Evidence Archival Center Opens

.

"Cyber Evidence is transient and is here now and gone next moment. Then how do we preserve and present it to a court of law  when a Cyber document becomes relevant?.."

..is a doubt that is bothering a lot of people in India ever since the ITA-2000 proclaimed that Electronic Documents and paper Documents are equal in the eyes of law. The ITA-2000 also defined the process of digital signing of electronic documents which would help in the preservation of Electronic documents.

But how long can Indians wait for the Certifying Authorities to become active and start their business of providing Digital Certificates to Indians?. Even after nearly two years since the Act was notified,  except for one company announcing its intentions, Digital Certificates for individuals in India from a Certifying Authority licensed by the Controller has remained  a dream.

In the mean time, if electronic documents are to be presented in the Courts, it has to pass through a series of Certifying procedures, some of which are not easy to accomplish.

Instead of lamenting on the helpless situation for the Indian Cyber Law Compliant Netizen, naavi.org has come up with a  service called "Cyber Evidence Archival Center". This center will enable public to archive various types of Electronic documents such as E-Mail sent, E-Mail Received and Web Pages seen, and obtain certified copies which can be produced as evidence in a court of law.

The service will be finetuned to accommodate online payments in due course. Until then, the payment system will require the registrant to walk upto the nearest post office to TMO the payment. But even then, it would be a service that will fill a long standing need for the Cyber Citizens of India.

We hope the availability of this service will enable public to register Cyber Crime cases with the  Cyber crime cells being opened by the Police in different states. It will also assist companies to get into E-Contracting without waiting any longer for Certifying Authorities to be ready.
