naavi.org has been highlighting the need
to declare a war against Cyber Porno. The menace has many dimensions. One
of the most objectionable form is the Unsolicited e-mail invitations that
land in the e-mail boxes of all and sundry including that of our children.
I am giving below a copy of the message
received by me and the notice sent by me to the owner of the domain from
which the mail seems to have emanated. It has been sent to all the e-mail
addresses located in one of the VSNL mail host servers in Chennai. Probably
it has reached several thousands of Chenniites. In effect therefore such
e-mails are a crime against our society.
It is for responsible Netizens to think
how this menace can be curbed. While I have just sent a notice, this case
must be followed up systematically by the law enforcement authorities.
It may be necessary to tackle hundreds of such cases before our e-mail
boxes are cleaned up.
We must however start with VSNL introducing
a system where buy any mail addressed to "Recipients@.." should be blocked
as it is indicative of a spam.
The point is "Do they have the authority?'..
It is however possible for VSNL to act
without waiting for any legislation by taking an authority from their customers
for blocking such mails. But do they have the motivation?
I would like suggestions from the public
on how such nuisance e-mails can be stopped.
I also request all those who have received
this mail to send a mail to Chennai VSNL recording their objection to the
mail and requesting them to take action to block such mails.
